Awards and Recognition by Third Parties in fiscal 2024

In recent years, there has been a growing interest in ESG investment which considers not only financial but also Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) elements as investment criteria. The Sumitomo Forestry Group has received the following awards and recognition as of March 2025.

Dow Jones Sustainability Indices

Launched in 1999, the DJSI is a sustainability-related stock index that S&P Dow Jones Indices publishes annually in the United States. It was the first global equity index to evaluate major companies that are working to build a sustainable society. A survey is conducted on approximately 3,500 of the world's largest companies by market capitalization, evaluating them in terms of economy, environment, and society.

Sumitomo Forestry was included in the Dow Jones Sustainability World Index*1 in December 2024. For the fourth consecutive year, we received the highest score of the 22 companies in the homebuilding industry. We were also selected for the Dow Jones Sustainability Asia Pacific Index*2. Since the first time we were included in 2005, this is the 17th time that we have been selected for the Dow Jones Sustainability Indices.

Received the Highest Valuation in S&P Global Inc.'s Sustainability Rating

Sumitomo Forestry was ranked in the Top 1% in the homebuilding industry category in The Sustainability Yearbook - 2025 Rankings conducted by S&P Global Inc., a U.S.-based research and rating company in the field of global socially responsible investment (SRI). This marks the seventh year in a row that we have received the highest rating. S&P Global Inc. has evaluated the economic, environmental and social initiatives of more than 7,690 leading companies worldwide. Of these, 780 companies are included in The Sustainability Yearbook - 2025 Rankings as "Sustainability Yearbook Members."

Since The Sustainability Yearbook's launch in 2008, we have been included as a member for 18 consecutive years in the homebuilding industry category. This edition includes nine Japanese companies, including our own, in the Top 1% of their respective categories.

Sumitomo Forestry Makes Climate Change A List in CDP 2024

Sumitomo Forestry has been selected by CDP, an international NGO, on its highest-ranking Climate Change A List for the ninth year in a row.

CDP is among the world's leading ESG evaluation agencies as regards corporate greenhouse gas emission reduction and climate change strategies. It evaluates the efforts of leading global companies in terms of market capitalization in reducing greenhouse gas emissions and mitigating climate change. The Climate Change A List includes companies with particularly effective initiatives in combating climate change.

Evaluation of companies that fulfill international standards in environment, social, and governance aspects by FTSE Russell, a group company of London Stock Exchange. Sumitomo Forestry has been consecutively included in the FTSE4Good Global Index every year since 2004.

An ESG index for Japanese stocks by FTSE Russell, Ltd. and selected by the Government Pension Investment Fund, Japan (GPIF) as one of the ESG indices in July 2017.

FTSE Blossom Japan Sector Relative Index

It is one of ESG indices of FTSE Russell, which was chosen in March 2022 by the Government Pension Investment Fund (GPIF), a selective ESG composite Index which is evaluated in terms of three perspectives including ESG evaluation by FTSE Russell, carbon intensity (greenhouse gas emissions per sales unit), and management attitude toward climate change risks and opportunities.

MSCI Nihonkabu ESG Select Leaders Index

Index for Japanese stocks adopted by the Government Pension Investment Fund, Japan (GPIF) as one of the ESG indices in March 2024. Among constituents of the MSCI Nihonkabu Investable Market Index, which is a parent index, companies with high ESG ratings in each industry are selected.

MSCI Japan Empowering Women Index (WIN)

Index for Japanese stocks selected by the Government Pension Investment Fund, Japan (GPIF) as one of the indices in July 2017. The MSCI Japan Empowering Women Index (WIN) evaluates companies with relatively excellent gender diversity within the industry, using "MSCI Japan IMI top 700 stocks by market capitalization" as the parent index.

S&P/JPX Carbon Efficient Index

The Japan Exchange Group, the Tokyo Stock Exchange, and the S&P Dow Jones Index have jointly developed an environmental index, the S&P/JPX Carbon Efficient Index, and have begun its disclosure.
The Government Pension Investment Fund, Japan (GPIF) selected the S&P/JPX Carbon Efficient Index as a benchmark for ESG investment strategy from fiscal 2018.

Morningstar Japan ex-REIT Gender Diversity Tilt Index (excluding REIT)

Index for Japanese stocks selected by the Government Pension Investment Fund, Japan (GPIF) as one of the ESG indices in April 2023. Companies that have a strong gender diversity policy embedded in their corporate culture and that promise equal opportunities for employees regardless of gender are selected.

SOMPO Sustainability Index

The SOMPO Sustainability Index is an ESG evaluation by Sompo Asset Management Co., Ltd. Evaluated through an environmental survey and an ESG survey by Sompo Risk Management, Sumitomo Forestry has been consecutively included in the SOMPO Sustainability Index since fiscal 2013.

Japan Wood Design Association Sumitomo Forestry received the Japan Wood Design Award for the tenth consecutive year in 2024. In addition, two projects received the top-ranking Encouragement Prize (Chairperson's Award) at the 2024 Wood Design Awards. These were LignoSat, a wooden satellite, and the NHERI TallWood Project (Sumitomo Forestry verification phase), a 10-story timber building that has undergone simulated testing for large earthquakes.
